Smart Search
Find notes by meaning, not just keywords - on-device semantic search in the search bar.
Smart Search lets you find notes by meaning, not just keywords. Type a natural language question in the search bar and VivaDicta finds relevant notes using on-device semantic matching - even if your exact words don't appear in the text.
How It Works
When you switch to the Smart tab in the search bar, VivaDicta uses an on-device AI model to understand what you mean and match it against all your notes. Results show a relevance score and are ranked by how closely they match your query.
Search Modes
The search bar has three tabs:
- All - combines keyword and semantic search together
- Keyword - exact keyword matching
- Smart - semantic search by meaning (AI-powered, fully on-device)
Examples
- "What did I say about the budget?" - finds notes mentioning finances, costs, spending, even without the word "budget"
- "Did I mention Apple frameworks?" - finds notes about Apple Intelligence, Shortcuts, SwiftUI, etc.
- "meeting about the redesign" - finds notes about UI changes, layout updates, design discussions
Privacy
Smart Search runs entirely on your device. Your notes are indexed locally and never sent to any server. The semantic index is built in the background and updates automatically when you add or edit notes.
Smart Search vs Smart Search Chat
The search bar gives you a list of matching notes. If you want the AI to read those notes and answer your question directly, use Smart Search Chat instead - it combines semantic search with AI conversation.
