Clipboard & Text Context
Use clipboard or selected text as context for AI processing.
Clipboard Context lets AI processing see your clipboard content alongside your transcription. This enables powerful workflows where you dictate instructions about content you've already copied.
How It Works
When Clipboard Context is enabled, VivaDicta reads your clipboard when recording starts and includes it as context for the AI. The clipboard content is wrapped in <CLIPBOARD_CONTEXT> tags so the AI knows to reference it when processing your transcription.
The AI will use the clipboard content based on what you say. If your dictation implies you want to act on the clipboard (e.g., “rewrite this”, “translate this”), the AI treats it as the primary material. If your dictation is independent, the AI uses the clipboard as background reference for accuracy.
Use Cases
The following use cases require the AI Assistant preset to be selected, since they involve giving instructions to the AI rather than transcribing speech:
- Reply to messages — copy a message, then dictate “reply to this professionally.” The AI sees the original message and generates a response.
- Transform copied content — copy a paragraph and dictate “rewrite this in a casual tone” or “translate this to Spanish.”
- Summarize — copy an email or article, then dictate “summarize the key points.”
- Answer questions — copy an error message or code snippet, then ask “explain this” or “what does this do?”
This use case works with any AI preset:
- Reference context — copy terminology or specifications, then dictate freely — the AI uses the clipboard for accuracy without acting on it directly.
How to Enable
- Go to Edit Mode → AI Processing.
- Turn on Clipboard Context.
That's it — whenever your clipboard has text content and you start a recording, the AI will reference it automatically.
Compatibility
Clipboard Context works with any AI provider and any preset. It is especially useful with the Assistant preset, which is designed to follow instructions and answer questions.
