Our Commitment to Privacy

VivaDicta is designed with privacy as a core principle. We believe your voice recordings and transcriptions are personal, and you should have complete control over your data. This policy explains how VivaDicta handles your information.

On-Device Processing

VivaDicta offers fully on-device transcription and AI processing. Available options vary by platform:

Transcription:

• Whisper — OpenAI Whisper models running locally on your device (via whisper.cpp on macOS, WhisperKit on iOS)
• Parakeet — NVIDIA's speech recognition running locally on your device
• Apple Speech — Apple's built-in speech recognition running on-device

AI Processing:

• Ollama — Run open-source AI models locally on your Mac or local network
• Apple Foundation Model — Apple's on-device AI for text processing (iOS only)

When using on-device models, your audio and text never leave your device. All processing happens locally, and we have no access to your recordings, transcriptions, or AI-processed text.

Cloud Processing (Optional)

You may optionally choose to use cloud-based transcription or AI processing services. When you do, your audio or text is sent to the provider you select:

• OpenAI (Whisper, GPT)
• Anthropic (Claude)
• Google (Gemini)
• Groq
• Deepgram
• ElevenLabs
• Mistral
• Cerebras
• xAI (Grok)
• Soniox
• OpenRouter
• Custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints

Each provider has their own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing them if you use cloud services. You provide your own API keys — we do not have access to your accounts with these providers.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• Audio recordings
• Transcriptions or AI-processed text
• Personal information beyond what is needed for licensing (macOS)
• Your API keys (stored locally in your device's Keychain)

Data Storage

All your transcriptions, recordings, and settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. API keys are stored securely in your device's Keychain.

iCloud Sync (Optional): If you enable iCloud sync, your transcriptions, presets, vocabulary, and settings are synced across your devices via Apple's CloudKit. This data is encrypted and managed by Apple — we do not have access to it. You can disable iCloud sync at any time in the app settings.

Third-Party Services

VivaDicta integrates with the following services:

• Polar.sh (macOS) — Handles license key purchases and activation. When you purchase a license, Polar processes your payment and provides a license key. See Polar's Privacy Policy
• Sparkle (macOS) — Checks for app updates. When checking for updates, your macOS version and app version may be sent to our update server. No personal data is collected.
• Apple CloudKit — Optional iCloud sync for transcriptions and settings. See Apple's Privacy Policy

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Use VivaDicta entirely offline with on-device processing
• Delete all your data by removing the app
• Choose which (if any) cloud services to use
• Enable or disable iCloud sync at any time
• Contact us with questions about your data

Children's Privacy

VivaDicta is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
